Social value. You could call it social impact. It’s what we strive for in the Third Sector.

We already know its language, we’re already focused on creating it. Our desire to achieve it drives most Tech for Good ideas.

What is User Value?

You need to learn about user value because up until now chances are you’ve been focused on ‘social value’. That means ‘solving social problems’. That’s cool, and that’s why we’re all here, right? But on it’s own, social value is not enough…

‘User value’. You may have heard of it. Or you may have an idea of its meaning just in the words ‘user’ and ‘value’.

However, we’ve found it means different things to different folk. And that sometimes people confuse it with ‘social value’ or ‘social impact’.

This confusion comes from thinking that if a product improves a user’s life then it improves society too. So user value is seen as leading directly to social value.

Tech for Good 2018 Application Longlist Published

Back in December last year 119 organisations submitted an application to Tech for Good 2018.

Our assessment team whittled those applications down to a longlist of 50. Thirteen will receive funding. Successful projects will be announced in June.

What is Tech for Good?

We hear the words ‘Tech for Good’ used on social media and even in the popular press. But what do we mean when we talk about it?

Tech could save the world.

Literally.

Good tech, that is. Not bad tech.

Good tech: digital tech that solves the world’s problems or brings joy and hope to people.

Bad tech: digital tech that disregards people’s rights or uses dark patterns to influence online behaviour.
